A Message from the Department Chair
Welcome to the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Founded in 1864, we are the oldest engineering discipline at Rutgers. As a fully-encompassing department, our program comprises two majors: Environmental Engineering and Civil Engineering. Our environmental engineering program is jointly administered by Rutgers School of Engineering (SOE) and School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (SEBS).
Over the course of their studies, undergraduate and graduate students are thoughtfully and thoroughly prepared in state-of-the-art facilities by a faculty of world-class research leaders and technological innovators for dynamic careers in civil engineering, a field ranked #4 by US News & World Report as a Best Engineering Job in 2023.
CEE faculty are respected in their field contributing research that addresses a broad range of civil and environmental challenges, and is supported by the leading federal and state funding agencies Our community of faculty, students, alumni, and a growing roster of industry partners have gained national and international recognition for pioneering work that shares an overriding mission: to provide solutions to global challenges that contribute to the development of a safer and more sustainable infrastructure, environment, and economy.
We welcome all – students, faculty, staff, and industry partners to join us on this mission.
